Children are naturally curious and do not easily recognize and avoid hazards; therefore, they need extra protection and care. Injuries leading to death are the biggest single threat to the well-being of our children. Health Canada's Consumer Product Safety Bureau’s objective is to raise awareness among parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators and children about the potential risks of injury associated with consumer products and to offer safety tips to minimize the risk of injuries.
The following resources provide practical and useful tips and advice to help keep your family safe from preventable injuries.
Stay Safe:
The Stay Safe program is a fun and interactive tool to teach young children to recognize the hazard symbols found on household chemical products. The program teaches them that the symbols mean stay away and get an adult to put the products in a safe place.
Is Your Child Safe?
Is Your Child Safe? is a publication for parents and caregivers containing safety information on products that may pose a danger to children under 6 years of age. It provides useful tips on how to minimize the hazards associated with common products. To order this free safety booklet call 1 800 O-Canada or send an email to CPS-SPC@hc-sc.gc.ca.
